For the second year in a row the SXSW Eco Welcome Dinner sold out before the conference even began. Hosted by the beautiful Barr Mansion the evening could not have been more delightful. The weather was perfect, the guests were chatty and energetic, and the food divine. The evening started with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres under the ancient live oak trees and then moved into the artisan ballroom. There was fresh bread from their wood-fired oven to dip in dark green olive oil, rainbow chard with beets and pistachios, sweet potato wedges with avocado suiza sauce and organic pork shoulder that was Amish-raised in Wisconsin.
As the Food & Ag and Special Events Programmer for Eco, I had a very long and crazy first day and sat down to dinner with my brain and body buzzing with adrenaline and to-do lists. As soon as I had my first bite of this homemade meal...the buzzing died away. I was able to enjoy some great food and great conversation and had an ice cold Lagunitas beer to top it off. It was the perfect end to Day 1 and a great way to gear up for the rest of the conference.
