Sustainability is a practice that was implemented from start to finish of SXSW Eco 2013 to reduce the environmental impact of our conference and satellite events. As part of our corporate commitment, we put priority on positive actions that benefit the environment and mitigate any negative impacts that may result from our activities. For SXSW Eco 2013, we took positive strides towards setting a new standard for what it means to produce a sustainable conference.
From using biodegradable badges on recycled lanyards to using environmentally friendly dinnerware, we have demonstrated an internal commitment to producing an environmentally responsible event. Outside our offices we continue to partner with other responsible companies that help further our efforts in reducing our environmental impact without sacrificing the quality of our attendees' experience.
With the support of Sustainable America, Texas Disposal Systems helped manage a recycling and composting program at all 2013 SXSW Eco events. To address the large number of registrants that traveled to Austin for the conference, Green Mountain Energy once again provided carbon offsets to counter the negative impact travel creates. SXcycles and RideScout gave registrants viable options for traveling between SXSW Eco events in a more environmentally responsible way. Special thanks to Spinfish Event Solutions for helping divert more than 1,200 lbs of waste during SXSW Eco 2013! SpinFish worked with our exhibitors to collect reusable exhibition materials to be either repurposed or recycled. With their help we significantly reduced the amount of third-party waste from our conference. It is because of our sustainability partners that we are allowed to produce a great conference at a low cost for our planet.
Once again, THANK YOU to all of our sustainability partners for helping make SXSW Eco 2013!
