Ron Finley has achieved national prominence for his efforts to bring fresh food into cities by gardening in medians, sidewalks and vacant lots. A professional fashion designer from South Central L.A., Ron battled the food desert phenomenon by growing a free-for-all garden in the curbside strip in front of his home. When issued a citation by the city, Ron fought back by enlisting other green activists and municipal allies. Now Ron's a spokesman for the urban gardening movement and working on larger projects to bring gardening and other training to those living in food deserts.Self-proclaimed "gangster gardener"
