Today SXSW and SXSW Eco are at the White House for the nation's inaugural South by South Lawn festival. Tune in to the livestream to watch SXSW Eco speaker Dr. Katharine Hayhoe take the stage alongside President Obama, and Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio to discuss the importance of protecting our planet.
Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, an accomplished climate scientist from Texas Tech University has spent her life studying the connection between values and our response to climate change. Having had the honor to meet and hear Dr. Hayhoe speak just last week at Texas Tribune Fest, I vividly recall her message; it's hard to care about an issue if we haven't related that issue to our own core values. It is difficult to understand the effects of climate change and why we should care about our planet's conservation until we consider the issues on a more personal level. Voted as one of TIME's 100 most influential people, Katharine Hayhoe leads the conversation on how we can best prepare our planet for future generations.
At SXSW Eco, Dr. Hayhoe will speak in the session, "Critical Engagement: Communicating Climate Across Divides" on communicating the need for climate policy to adapt to a changing environment. Through her unique perspective, Dr. Hayhoe will inspire and at the same time reveal why faith is an essential tool in critical action against climate change.
Dr. Hayhoe will not be alone at SXSL discussing how we can make a real difference in the world. The festival will include several other participants who will be speaking at SXSW Eco including the Food + Future CoLab and google.org.
If you couldn't make it to DC today, you're in luck because staff members of The White House are coming to Austin next week to discuss Decision 2016: How will POTUS 45 #actonclimate. Check out this session with Dan Utech (Deputy Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change), Carol Browner (Former Director of the Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy), Rohan Patel (Special Assistant to the President) and more.
