Calling all Eco Hackers, Coders, Designers, and Data Experts! Hack your way into SXSW Eco and build a mobile home energy app! Join the SXSW Eco Hackathon on Sunday Oct 6, presented by Verizon Foundation. Equipped with powerful data from Pike Powers Lab, hackers will join teams to complete apps in less than 24 hours.
We are looking for the breakthrough idea – more than just displaying power or showing a particularly thirsty circuit. Use your canvas to empower consumers and industry providers with this information. What insights can you give a home owner about their homes and their lives? What functionality would be useful not just for home owners, but for home developers, appliance manufacturers, utilities, solar panel makers, or electric vehicle manufacturers?
Pike Powers Lab's data represents a week's worth of ground truth from five different types of consumer. Each with their own separate concerns, habits, usage patterns, spending ability, home type, and appliances. Contained in this sample data set is a day in the life of an advanced consumer – they have an energy efficient home, an electric vehicle, and rooftop solar panels. You can see, minute-by-minute, what level of energy each major circuit in the home is using. More than just an estimation, this is based on ground-truth measurements of each major circuit from separate monitors placed inside this home's circuit breaker boxes. Each of these threads forms a tapestry about this one home, this one family. What do you see when you look at the picture?
Sign up for the SXSW Eco Hackathon now to participate in this exciting opportunity and test the potential of this exclusive data!
